LCP Delta are looking for a Energy Data Analyst to join our short-term energy markets practice. This is a great opportunity to code on our market-leading tools and become an expert in GB and European power markets, within a supportive and rewarding work environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Coding on and shaping the direction of our short-term power analytics and forecasting tool: Enact
    • Understanding what problems traders, asset owners and other market participants are currently facing, and coding new features in Enact to help solve them
    • Working on our cutting-edge visualisations in order to support our rapidly growing suite of other tools that Enact works with
    • Staying close to our Engineering, Infrastructure, Web and Delivery teams to ensure we stay on the latest tech-stack
  • Conducting in-depth data analysis and research on the rapidly evolving GB power market sector, with an aim to produce meaningful and consolidated metrics and content for the market. This will include a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods, including:
    • Data analysis of market trends and events, making use of our market-leading short-term power markets tool, Enact
    • Attending market webinars and events, and summarising key information to help the market keep track of market design changes
    • Face-to-face and telephone discussion with industry experts and other professionals
  • Tracking closely the dynamics of the balancing, wholesale and frequency response markets to help keep an eye on what our clients will be paying attention to. This will include analysis of new markets and services being offered in the sector, as well as trends in prices, volumes and participant behaviour across these markets. This shapes the direction of our future tools and services
  • Working alongside the Enact, Modelling and Energy Economics and Finance teams, who are also keeping a close eye on the markets and changes in policy
  • Communicating with clients or subscribers via presentations and calls
  • Building relationships with industry contacts on behalf of the company, developing client relationships and contributing to the development of the business
  • Becoming a thought leader, identifying trends and sharing insight on short-term energy markets

Short-Term Power Markets Team

The power markets practice at LCP Delta sits across a few of our key teams: including the Power Trading (inc. Enact), Power (inc. modelling) and Economics team.

Enact is LCP Delta’s market-leading data visualisation, analytics and forecasting platform aimed at the short-term power markets. The team now work with the majority of the GB power market, supporting traders, analysts and asset owners in tracking live minute-by-minute changes in the day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets. This is through both our platform and bi-monthly catch-up calls. The analysis you produce will directly help contribute to these.

Our Consulting Modelling practice supports lenders, investors and asset owners in making strategic decisions and help assess the impact of policy on their investments across the UK and Ireland. We support with market forecasting, revenue stacking, asset valuation, dispatch optimisation, auction bidding strategies and policy impact analysis. Our clients include generators, suppliers, investors, strategists, traders and policy analysts. Within this sit the Energy Economic and Finance team who have a wealth of experience in the energy sector.

While you will work very closely with both teams, your day-to-day will be working alongside the Enact team, helping to push and develop our web platforms. This will involve coding in a variety of languages, including C#, Python and Vue.JS. In addition, the work you do will directly contribute to our Power Insights subscription service, which keeps the GB market up to date on key trends, analysis and news.

What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?

  • Relevant BSc, MSc, PhD qualifications could serve as an advantage, alongside experience in relevant aspects of the energy sector, working with (for example, but not limited to) energy companies, technology manufacturers, policy makers, ‘start-ups’ or industry associations
  • Intermediate coding knowledge, in C#, Python or another equivalent language
  • An appetite for problem-solving, turning real-world challenges into impactful tools
  • Interpersonal, organisational and project management skills
  • Writing, data analysis and presentation skills
  • Proficient use of Excel
  • Collaborative and team-oriented working skills
  • A willingness to develop new industry contacts and clients and attend events where required
  • Commercial acumen – the ability to think commercially about the needs of our clients
  • Customer focus – an understanding of what GB power market players would be looking for
