Full time 37.5 hours per week. This is a hybrid role working on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays. You are welcome to come to campus on other days too or to work from home. Requests for further flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).

Salary

Grade 7 starting at £38,784 to £46,049 per annum, pro rata if part time.

About the role


The Student Casework Manager (SCM) will work closely with another SCM (already in post) to oversee the delivery of casework across Student Complaints, Student Discipline, and Criminal Convictions processes, ensuring that cases are managed efficiently, sensitively, and in accordance with University policies and national sector guidance.

The post holder will play a leading role in managing complex, high-risk, and sensitive cases, including sexual misconduct. This will include clerking Misconduct Panel Hearings, providing advice to senior decision-makers and ensuring proportionate, lawful, and defensible outcomes.

They will also act as a point of contact for the University’s with the OIA (Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education), providing expert advice on institutional risk and ensuring responses are robust and reflective of sector best practice.

The Casework Manager will assist in developing and strengthening systems, processes, training and practices to ensure the University’s duties and responsibilities are met, while actively engaging with national developments in complaints, student discipline, and safeguarding. The role requires close liaison with a broad range of staff in Professional Services and Academic Faculties, with a strong focus on improving the student experience and mitigating reputational and legal risk to the University.

An innovative, risk-conscious approach, sound judgment, diplomacy, and the ability to manage business processes in a complex organisation are essential attributes for this post.

About you


You will be an experienced caseworker with proven investigation skills and experience of working on complex cases with a trauma informed approach. You will have a calm and professional way of working on cases that include distressing subject material and be dedicated to ensuring that students are able to confidently raise issues that impact them. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) you will ideally have knowledge and experience of working in the HE sector and/or criminal justice system.

You will have excellent IT skills and be able to efficiently manage your own workload and at times, support other colleagues. You will communicate clearly with the team, line management, and stakeholders.
