We had a chat with Stephanie about how she was able to overcome the job obstacles she faced in the UK.
Can you speak a little bit about your background?
Based on my background experience, I am a lawyer, and coming to the UK, I struggled to secure a role as one. I kept hitting stumbling blocks at all corners, wondering what was wrong. And then I knew I had to get help with my career.
How did you come about RKY Careers?

How did you transition from Law to Compliance?
When I contacted RKY and spoke about what I had been going through regarding my job search, she asked me if I was UK-qualified, as this is a significant hindrance in securing a job as a lawyer.

How was the bootcamp experience?
In just four weeks, I acquired all the necessary skills and knowledge despite the short time packed with extensive learning. The facilitator enhanced our understanding of UK compliance laws, regulations, and company policies.
Additionally, he introduced critical criminal finance legislation to aid in recognizing, assessing, and managing anti-money laundering within any business.
I tackled real-life cases throughout the project, conducting risk ratings and enhanced due diligence onboarding for actual entities. This hands-on experience proved invaluable, preparing me to excel in interviews and perform effectively in real-world job situations.
By the conclusion of the training, I grasped the subtleties of the regulatory environment and its impact on an organization.
How did you secure a role as a Compliance Monitoring Analyst?
After four weeks of training and one week for an interview preparation session, I got my RKY-optimised CV and LinkedIn and started applying for jobs.
I kept getting rejections upon rejections. But this time, this did not deter me because I was confident with my acquired skills.
After multiple rejections, I secured an interview for a Compliance Monitoring Analyst role. This interview was intense and vigorous, but I could scale through thanks to the interview preparation sessions at RKY.
If you had the chance to make your decision again, would you still follow this path?
I would not change my decision. The same choices I made then will be the same now.
This decision helped me secure the role I’m currently in. And I would say this is the best decision I made this year.
